Vaginal Training Balloon

The vaginal training balloon is an excellent device for patients for whom dilation and/or relaxation can resolve a vaginal condition. The training balloon is recommended by gynecologists, sexologists and pelvic physiotherapists
The balloon is recommended for the following vaginal conditions:

  • Overactive pelvic floor muscles
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Vaginismus
  • Vaginal stenosis
  • Hypotonic pelvic floor

The vaginal training balloon can be used to raise awareness of tension and relaxation in the pelvic floor muscles, to train the pelvic floor muscles and to dilate the pelvic floor, vagina and vulva.

The starting position is with the patient lying on their back with knees bent and their back supported by cushions. The balloon should be filled to its minimum level and inserted into the vagina with a little lubrication. This should not be painful. Filling the balloon with air or lukewarm water will enable the therapist to determine how the patient experiences a given amount of filling. The therapist can also determine, using touch, sight or measurement, how the pelvic floor muscles respond when the balloon passes through the pelvic floor via the vagina. If necessary, the patient can practice increasing their awareness of tensing and relaxing their pelvic floor muscles when the balloon is inserted. The balloon training can easily be performed at home following proper instruction by the therapist.
It will be more comfortable for the patient if she goes to the toilet before the treatment starts.
The shape of the vaginal balloon is specifically designed to fit the body cavity and can be used by most people without a problem.

Vaginal balloon exercises are not the same for everyone. The exercises will be adapted to suit your specific symptoms and the results of your examination.

The following aspects can be considered:

Dilation and relaxation of the pelvic floor, vagina and vulva.

The vaginal balloon is used for complaints that primarily require dilation, such as vaginal complaints or stenosis. The balloon can first be demonstrated to the patient before it is inserted. It can then be filled by either the therapist or the patient.

Pelvic floor awareness exercises.

Many people find it difficult to feel the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles are located entirely within the body, which means it is not possible to see whether they are tensed or relaxed. To be able to exercise this part of our body, we must first be aware of what we can do with our pelvis, what and where our pelvic floor is and what we can do with it. After all, you cannot exercise something you cannot feel. In addition, people often tense the muscles around the pelvis instead of the pelvic floor.

Learning to tense and relax the pelvic floor and other muscles around the pelvis so all the muscles are able to work in harmony.

Learning to tense and relax the pelvic floor and other muscles around the pelvis so all the muscles are able to work in harmony.
During the exercises, the patient will be taught how to make optimum use of the pelvic floor, so they can feel when the muscles are powerfully tensed and when they are fully relaxed. If is it is too weak, exercises will be given to strength the pelvic floor. These are exercises that teach the patient how to tense the muscles in different ways: brief powerful contraction, long powerful contraction and long less powerful contraction. This is followed by learning when and with how much force the pelvic floor should provide active support during activities that increase the pressure in the abdomen, such as coughing, jumping and lifting.
The vaginal training balloon is simple to use and suitable for exercising in the privacy of your own home.

Materials and properties

The balloon is made of silicones and is entirely free of latex. The balloon is filled with a maximum of 500 ml of air or warm water. The 3-way valve makes it possible to disconnect the syringe while the air or water remains in the balloon, or to top it up. The material is soft and strong and the balloon can be filled in stages. The balloon has a tendency to increase in diameter rather than length when filled.

Personal use

The balloon is designed to be used multiple times, but only by a single patient.
